GROUND TO FLOURISH.
A mid-century masterpiece of cedar + stone.
In 1962, a once-sleepy Seattle hosted the World’s Fair. For the millions who visited the Space Needle and Monorail, these design icons reflected an aspirational age.
Across Puget Sound, a Kingston couple was building a remarkable, yet understated home by architect Anker I. Molver. Like other Molver designs, theirs took cues from nature, prioritizing harmony over dominance.

An outstanding expression of mid-century Pacific Northwest architecture, Molver’s design reflects his Scandinavian heritage and inspiration from travels to Japan. These complementary influences are beautifully expressed through massive timbers sourced and milled on-site.
In 2003, my mom, Kinam Sohn, purchased the house, then described as a “fixer upper.” After extensive repairs that honored its integrity, the house was opened to public stays.
In 2022, I bought my mom’s home, and committed to caretaking this special place. Although my first love is horticulture, I’ve enjoyed curating mid-century art and furnishings to enhance our guests' experience.
The German word Gesamtkunstwerk refers to a “total work of art.” Towards this lofty goal, Anker is an ever-evolving reflection of countless intentional choices leavened by nature’s whim. As it happens, sharing this work-in-progress with guests is part of the project.
